Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo owners appreciate their key fob's useful remote features. With a smartphone app they can lock and unlock the vehicle or start the engine and even locate it.
First, put the fob onto a clean work surface with the logo facing upwards. Find the button to release it. Place a coin between the cover of the fob and the fob, then carefully pull it up.
Locking the Doors
Volvo's remote keyfobs allow you to unlock your vehicle's tailgate, doors and fuel filler flap with the push of a button. They can also turn on the ignition, trigger the alarm, and even operate your sunroof if equipped. You'll never need to search for your keys, or have to worry about locking out of your vehicle.

The key fob should be held with the Volvo logo in the front to press the manual lock/unlock. Find the black button that is on the outside of the body of the key fob and press it gently to open a cover that houses the manual key blade. You'll require a flathead screwdriver, or a coin to flip this cover counterclockwise, so the arrow is aligned with "open."
The Engine is Ready to Start
Modern Volvo key fobs provide an ease of use and function that is unmatched by traditional manual keys. A key fob, just like any other battery-operated device, will lose charge over time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, it's an indication that it needs a new battery.
You can activate this feature with the key fob if the vehicle comes with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will then heat or cool to the same temperature it was set to when parked. It will continue to run for a maximum of 15 minutes.
Using a fingernail, carefully remove the cover from the back of the key fob. Under the cover on a diagonal, close to the edge of the body, you'll find a button.
